How to Incorporate Personal Touches into Your Elopement

Elopements

An elopement or wedding is perfect for showcasing your unique relationship and personality. Whether you and your partner enjoy hiking or eating pizza late at night (or both!) – these shared traditions can be incorporated into your big day to make things personal and meaningful to both of you. As a Colorado elopement photographer, I’ve witnessed so many ceremonies with personality. Often, the most meaningful ones are those where couples have taken the time to tailor their day to their specific relationship. I will share three suggestions for incorporating personal touches into your elopement. Let’s dive in!

Make it Yours

One of the first and perhaps more obvious ways to personalize your elopement is to incorporate personal touches. A few simple ways to do that include bringing meaningful items, like family heirlooms or favorite books. Perhaps you and your partner share a pet; bring them along for fun! I’ve had numerous couples bring their pups along for their Colorado elopement. Colorado allows pets to ‘sign’ as witnesses on a marriage license, making for some special memories. If you choose to elope outdoors, don’t hesitate to bring items to make the event more personal. So long as we clean up the space and leave it better than we found it, I think it’s fair game!

Picture Perfect Location

As many know, I am always up for an adventure, including your elopement day adventure! If there’s somewhere unique to you and your partner, eloping at that special spot is a great way to make the ‘I Do’s’ yours. Perhaps you want to elope where you had your first date, the spot your partner prosed, or even a favorite weekend hiking trail. It’s your dream day and your choice! Many couples travel to Colorado for a destination elopement and stay for their honeymoon, too! It’s a unique way to start their lives together while creating a tradition of returning to Colorado for anniversaries to come.

Unique Themes and Outfits

Lastly, consider a theme for your elopement or customized outfits for your big day. This is a simple way to add a bit of personality or honor your culture. When you elope, you can truly make the day what you want from start to finish – including the theme or what you wear! You might want to showcase a shared favorite color, or have outfits completed with special embroidery (your name and wedding date on the inside of a suit jacket for example!)

Or perhaps the theme for your big day is more about your hobbies, so you mix in those little details, such as a map, compass, and and hiking boots instead of heels if you two enjoy the outdoors together. Another idea is to close your elopement with an intimate picnic cake cutting complete with a custom topper and some champagne! The beautiful thing about an elopement is there’s no wrong choice!

When it comes to planning your Colorado elopement, take the time to consider what’s important to you and how to make this day uniquely yours. If you want more elopement inspiration, head to the blog or my Pinterest account for more inspiration and direction.
