5 Questions to Ask Colorado Elopement Photographers Before Booking

Tips and Tricks

With engagement and proposal season right around the corner, many couples are beginning the search for their dream Colorado elopement photographers. Throughout your search, you’ll be swarmed with hundreds of incredibly talented photographers. You may begin to feel a little bit lost, narrowing your options down to one. As an experienced photographer in the Colorado area myself, I’m here to be your guide for top things to ask before booking! Often, you won’t know what you truly want or what’s important to you until it’s too late. Consider making a list of your top priorities going into your search; this will also help narrow down the candidates.

Ask Colorado Elopement Photographers to See Recent Galleries

This is one of the most important questions you can ask any potential photographer for your big day. It’s very common for photographers to take a beautiful portrait of their couple and post it online. However, it’s important to see their work throughout the entire day, not just for those special moments after the ‘I Do’s. Colorado elopement photographers often post their best work online (which we would expect them to do) but don’t always show other moments throughout the wedding, and that’s ok, those portraits are often our favorite work. But before deciding on your photographer, just be sure to look at a complete and recent gallery to ensure your like their work start to finish. This will give you a full picture of what working with them would look like and show you how they work in different conditions.

What Happens In An Emergency and You Can’t Photograph Our Wedding

I am part of a large network of Colorado elopement photographers who work together to ensure an event is never forgotten due to an emergency. Whether the emergency was to arise three days prior or three hours prior to your big moment, you can be sure I would do everything in my power to secure another talented and equally qualified photographer to be there. As your photographer, it’s my absolute worst fear that something will happen and that I won’t be there to capture your treasured moments. However, as an experienced photographer, I have backup plans for everything! Please know, though; it would take something BIG to prevent me from missing your I-do’s! And if it’s not me you are hiring, find out what your photographer has planned in case of the worst!

What Is Your Process for Backing Up Images? Do These Colorado Elopement Photographers Carry Backup Equipment?

Throughout my years of experience, I’ve picked up a thing or two regarding being prepared. I understand the value these memories hold, and because of that, I take extra precautions. I always shoot with two cameras, each with two memory card slots. Once your day ends, I back up those images as soon as I get home. I don’t clear memory cards until images are edited and delivered to you, and by this point, they are backed up in multiple places! I always encourage my clients to back their photos up in multiple places as well.

When Will We See the Full Gallery? Do You Offer Sneak Peeks?

Your experience and delivery of complete photos are of the utmost importance to me. I know how excited and anxious you are to receive your images, and I ensure your complete gallery is delivered to you within four to six weeks from your event date. I do not provide previews, sneak peeks, or single photos before the full gallery delivery to adhere to this timeline. Often I aim to beat my delivery timelines and would rather surprise you early with the full gallery instead of teasing you with just a few images!

What’s Your Shooting Style Like at a Wedding?

I offer my clients a mix of documentary and posed moments throughout their big day. I direct and pose you when it’s time for portraits and family photos. Often I am told it is such a relief that I am so directive in these moments. But otherwise, as the day unfolds, I want you to enjoy your family, your ceremony, and all the other important moments. So I do my best to stick to the sidelines. I try to blend in and capture what I see during the day. This is the best way to capture the impromptu and important details while allowing my couples to be in the moment. Asking Colorado elopement photographers about their photography style is crucial. This helps ensure their style matches your overall vibe and desire for the day.
