Happy Halloween!!

It’s been a Halloween filled weekend for me! Saturday Stefan and I hosted a costume party at our house with lots of Halloween themed food, drinks and decor and even a costume contest. Then yesterday we hopped over to the Denver Zoo (It’s only a few blocks from our house!) and met up with our good friends Dan and Kamala and their daughter Brinton. Now, if you know Kamala at all, you know halloween is no small matter for her. Halloween is her Christmas, New Years and Easter all wrapped together. She has quite the collection of super creative hand made costumes from years past, and this year was no dissapointment. Brinton (2 and a half years old) wanted to be Monsters Inc for halloween this year, and while most of us would have said “Honey lets pick something a little less um… involved…” Kam was up for the challenge. She handmade these costumes (Yes, she made a 6 and a half foot tall Sully costume!) and even though Brinton wasn’t too crazy about wearing hers (It was a wee bit hard for her to walk in, and we know 2 year olds have places to go!) we still got some cute shots will all three in costume, and even some cute shots without Boo’s monster suit!

Kathryn, Will & Baby | Family Portrait

In one of my many trips back to DC for a few weddings, I had the pleasure of photographing a sweet family that’s expecting a baby girl in just a few weeks! Little Will here is about to be a big brother, and before she arrives his mom wanted to grab a few pictures of Will, her, and the belly! I’m scheduled to be back in town right after the little one arrives, so I should be posting in another month or so with pictures of her, Will, and mom and dad all together! But for now, Wills sweet smile and curious looks should be more than enough to keep you grinning I am sure, cuz he’s pretty darn cute!

So, I have to say it’s been a busy, busy summer! I’m engaged, we’re planning a wedding,we moved ourselves, our things, my business and our three pets to Denver, and I’ve had countless weddings and engagements to photograph as well as a few family portraits, senior sessions and boudoir shoots. Needless to say, I have a LOT to get up on the blog. So since I can’t post all of everything at once, I thought I would do a big preview post for what’s to come. A Sixties Mad Men Inspired Engagement Shoot | Las Vegas

Some of you may know about the largest Wedding Photography Convention in the world (that I know of) that is held every year in Sin City, Las Vegas! WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) brought 16,000 photogs to Vegas! Well for the last 2 years (and once many years prior) I have been lucky enough to get to go to WPPI, look at new vendors, meet other photographers, learn a thing or two here and there and generally have a good time immersing myself in the business I am so passionate about! But one thing missing from years previous was a chance to come back with some stellar photos from Vegas. Well I wasn’t going to come back empty handed this time!

One of my absolute favorite wedding blogs, the fab Grey Likes Weddings co-hosted a shoot with the talented Victor Sizemore, Photographer, to give us fellow wedding photographers a chance to learn and photograph a stylized shoot. Best part, it was themed in the style of Mad Men…that classic sixties style! You know I was signed up as soon as I found out about it. Aside from the gorgeous penthouse at the Palms we shot in and the stunning and super nice models with the gorgeous retro dresses and hairstyles, the shoot also allowed me to meet the beautiful and uber sweet face behind Grey Likes Weddings; Summer Watkins, who was just as lovely in person as she has been to me in countless email exchanges.

Well I have to say I am super excited about what I took away from the shoot and I can’t wait for you to scroll down and see, but before you go too far, please take a second to awcknowledge the hard work it took by a few key people to make this shoot happen:

Kim Cameron

Over the past two years, I have had the pleasure of photographing the beautiful and locally based musician Kim Cameron several times. But yesterday’s session was by far my favorite! We found a cozy little wine bar right int he neighborhood to photograph at, the lovely Bistrot Lepic and the light funneling in through the windows was just stunning! I had to put up a few sneak peaks of this session so that you can see what I mean! Check out Kim and her Band Side FX!

2010, A look back

Happy New Year! As I look forward to 2011 and all that I hope it brings, I thought it might be nice to look back on 2010, and all of the wonderful moments you, my clients, allowed me to share in. I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to step into peoples worlds, if only for a few hours, and help capture some of the fleeting moments of their lives. I can’t wait to find out what 2011 has in store for me, who I will meet, and who I will have the chance to photograph…but in preparation for all the wonderful moments I hope to capture this year, here is a look back of some of my favorites from all the amazing weddings, engagements and family portrait sessions from last year!

Jen & Jeff ‘Rock the Dress’ Session!

Jen and Jeff got married in August and I was so happy to be invited along with Stefan to be there for their big day. Jen looked absolutely fabulous and Jeff looked pretty dapper himself, but I couldn’t get over how pretty, soft and etherial Jen and her dress were. And with a dress like that, who wouldn’t want to get a second chance to wear it for some pictures on the last good weekend of fall, when the leaves still have color and haven’t quite fallen yet. Well Jen and Jeff asked if we could do some shots of them in their dress & suit and I was happy to oblige!

We started at the Capitol building where we got some stern looks from a few security guards, and then went down to the reflection pool to get a few more shots. Jen and Jeff are huge NY Knicks fans, so we had to take a few shots in their Knicks jerseys, right? And then just as the light was right we hopped over to the National Arboretum where this time we got a stern talking to by a security gaurd (oops!) but we played nice and in the end the gaurd let us do whatever we wanted (:

This is one of my favorite sessions to date, I hope you agree!!

Anu, Anika & Anish, Great Falls Family Portrait

I got to photograph this adorable little girl when she was only a few weeks old, and its so amazing to see how much she has grown a year and a half later! We all went down to Great Falls for some beautiful fall colors and Anika had fun throwing rocks in the river and stomping on leaves, and even a bit of tree climbing at the end!

Hey everyone….so I am in the midst of editing about 5 weddings, designing 6 albums, setting up my new computer, doing some Gibson shoots, and in the middle of a crazy upcoming launch at my day job; good old PBS ….so sincere apologies for not providing lots of 100 image posts here! But I assure you, much is on the horizon!

In the mean time, I will leave you with another gorgeous shot of bride Maria. How much more could you ask for?

It doesn’t have to be Mother’s Day…

Yay, a break from the norm….not that I don’t love all the amazing engaged and newly married couples I have the priviledge to photograph, but tonight I am excited to share something a bit different….a session between a mom and daughter…but no, not a new mom with an adorable baby girl….instead, an absolutely beautiful mother and daughter at a slightly more mature stage in life who wanted to have a session to (in their words) ‘remember this moment in life as a happy mother-daughter family’. Pretty incredible, right?

I am so honored to have been chosen to freeze this moment in time for them. If you are like me, and after seeing these photos realize you too haven’t been photographed with the people who brought you to where you are today, please contact me for a session!
